3 Common AC Repairs

Summers in Indiana can be pretty unbearable if you don’t have a reliable way to keep your home cool and comfortable. The temperatures start to soar and if your air conditioning isn’t able to keep up, you and your family will be pretty miserable. So how do you make sure your system is up to the task? Regular maintenance from your friends at Reve Porter Heating and Air Conditioning is the answer. Today, we’re discussing the three most common AC repairs and their warning signs, so you can be prepared for summer.

Common Air Conditioner Repairs

1. Low Refrigerant Levels

Your air conditioner needs refrigerant to absorb heat from the air inside your home, and then pump it outside. Low levels can be caused by a refrigerant line leak and may affect your system’s ability to run. If you notice your AC isn’t providing enough cool air, is making a hissing sound, or is short cycling, you may be low on refrigerant. Our AC professionals will repair or replace your refrigerant line and get your refrigerant back up to the right level.

2. Blower Motor Problems

The next most common problem we see in summer is an issue with the blower motor. You need the blower motor to power the fans that pull in hot air out of your home and push cool air in. Not surprisingly, if there is an issue with the motor, the fan won’t work either. Warning signs for this problem include screeching noises or reduced airflow inside your house. A failed blower motor will most likely need to be replaced, so don’t wait to call a professional to get the problem addressed.

3. Dirty Evaporator Coils

Finally, dirty evaporator coils may be the culprit to your under-performing air conditioner. The refrigerant cycles through your evaporator coils and absorbs the heat from your house. Just like anything else, the coils can get dirty over time because of the dust and dirt that comes through with the warm air. When that happens, the refrigerant cannot absorb the heat efficiently and your system will short cycle or freeze up. To avoid this problem, be sure to change your air filter regularly to cut down on the amount of dirt and dust that accumulates on your coils.
